In 2014, a cooperation between Crone & Co and Copenhagen EMS started. The cooperation was formed to initiate an entirely new congress within EMS and prehospital care; the European Emergency Medical Services Congress (EMS). Since 2016, the European EMS congress has been held annually in different countries across Europe. As official PCO for the congress, Crone & Co has been handling everything from project management and design over registration, hotel and abstract handling, to website and app development and much more. We are extremely happy to be a part of such a fantastic project.
In May 2020, the 5th version of the congress, EMS2020, will take place. Scottish Ambulance Service is co-hosting the upcoming event, which will take place in Glasgow. We are very excited about going to Scotland and looking forward to continue improve and develop the congress and create valuable and educational experiences for all stakeholders.
Scottish Event Campus, also known as SEC, is the venue for the upcoming congress. In October, we joined Copenhagen EMS for a site visit in Glasgow to see the venue and discuss how to optimise the use of the facilities for EMS2020. During our stay, we got to experience the famous Scottish hospitality first hand and were not disappointed.
SEC was chosen as the EMS2020 venue for several reasons. The venue, located in the charming Finnieston area in Glasgow, is large and highly versatile. It hosts everything from large concerts to exhibitions and congresses. Due to this year’s increased focus on sustainability, it was very important for us and the congress hosts that the venue was easily reachable by public transportation and has a clear sustainability policy. Moreover, the venue was voted “Best UK Conference Centre” at M&IT Awards 2019.
SEC is a very exciting venue for us to collaborate with and we are sure that it will aid the high coals to once again create an event that will exceed stakeholder expectations.
During our stay in Glasgow, we also participated in a kick-off workshop with representatives from Copenhagen EMS, Scottish Ambulance Service and EMS Leadership Network. At the workshop, we discussed the vision and ambitions for EMS2020 as well as the scientific programme. We welcome workshops like these because they provide the foundation for working creatively across professions and backgrounds and include all key stakeholders from the beginning, which in our eyes is the key for success.
When we are working to achieve a goal with a project, we are using different tools and methods like for example workshops. We are also implementing status meetings, milestone plans and project plans for the different projects we are working with. This works really well, but of course, a big part of the good job is working with some amazing collaborators.
EMS Dinner Party is an integral part of the congress each year and is among the highlights for the delegates. For the 2020 edition of the dinner party, The Argyle St Arches has been chosen as venue. The venue is rustic, beautiful and colorful, and we have already planned a lot of surprises for the participants. Its raw looks set the perfect setting for a fun, informal and surprising evening and we are looking forward to make our many ideas come true.
On the trip to Glasgow, we also visited 1955, the buildings of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, which is a beautiful, historical venue. These amazing surroundings are going to be the venue for the traditional Faculty Dinner. The building houses the only multidisciplinary college in the UK with a growing worldwide member of over 13.000 physicians, surgeons, dental professionals travel medicine practitioners and podiatrists. We chose this iconic venue, because we love the history behind and how well it fits the congress’ overall theme.
We are looking forward to the many coming months of planning EMS2020 and to tell you more about all the exciting things that we are working on for the congress.
